Hello, friends, and welcome to Day #26 of the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies. Only five more days until we close this month, and the movies go back into the archive. LOL

Black Horror Rising
African American horror films are much more than seeing more black faces and representation on film; it’s how we systematically define cultural norms in our community and what scares us. It goes much deeper than a simple summer camp, slasher, or monster movie, but these things affect how we live, move, and thrive in our communities amid the horrors of everyday life, like housing, gentrification, and the erasure of our history. It’s about remembering how far we’ve come, and knowing we still have so much work to do.

MOVIE: Vampires vs. The Bronx

THOUGHTS: This film has a higher Rotten Tomatoes score but a slightly lower IMDb score. Now that I’ve seen it, I can definitely say it’s geared toward a younger audience. It’s your typical tween adventure where everyone bands together to save the neighborhood, but underneath all that vampire fun, there’s some real-world social commentary at play. Nonetheless, I thought it was cute, entertaining, and a great pick for ages 10–13.
