Welcome to the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies
Quote for Halloween
“You look like a tuna melt. No one’s gonna love you lookin’ like that.” — Chucky, Chucky (2021)
Hello, friends, and welcome to Day #25 of the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies. We are officially in week 5 of the series, and the last week of October, as we count down to Halloween.
So far this month, I’ve brought you themed weeks that included Maniac Matriarchs, The Last Recording, The Witching Hour, and The Brain Buffet. 🍂🎃
I’ve had a real challenge coming up with titles for each week, and I’ve already got a list going for 2027 movie themes. I’ve also created a calendar that’s a snapshot of all the days, but if you’ve missed any of the series, check out days 5, 11, and 17 for a recap of that week.
And now…
Black Horror Rising
African American horror films are much more than seeing more black faces and representation on film; it’s how we systematically define cultural norms in our community and what scares us. It goes much deeper than a simple summer camp, slasher, or monster movie, but these things affect how we live, move, and thrive in our communities amid the horrors of everyday life, like housing, gentrification, and the erasure of our history. It’s about remembering how far we’ve come, and knowing we still have so much work to do.
I haven’t seen a few on this list (that may change by Day #25), but my Halloween watchlist is stacked and ready to go!
