Welcome to the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies
Quote for Halloween
“This inhuman place makes human monsters.”― Stephen King, The Shining
Hello, friends, and welcome to Day #27 of the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies. We are almost there, and I hope you’ve enjoyed my series so far. Have you decorated for the season this year? Let me know in the comments whether you like moody fall decor or festive Halloween.

And now…
Black Horror Rising
African American horror films are much more than seeing more black faces and representation on film; it’s how we systematically define cultural norms in our community and what scares us. It goes much deeper than a simple summer camp, slasher, or monster movie, but these things affect how we live, move, and thrive in our communities amid the horrors of everyday life, like housing, gentrification, and the erasure of our history. It’s about remembering how far we’ve come, and knowing we still have so much work to do.
DAY #27:
Movie: Slice
Rotten Tomatoes: 52%
Starring: 💥 Zazie Beetz 💥 Chance the Rapper 💥 Rae Gray
Genre: Werewolf-Horror, Comedy, Crime
SYNOPSIS: In a spooky small town, when a slew of pizza delivery boys are slain on the job, two daring survivors set out to catch the culprits behind the cryptic crime spree. [TRAILER] [Watch on Netflix]
“So you’re telling me that my pizza place is built on a gateway to hell?”
🧠THOUGHTS: While this movie may not be the highest rated, what the viewer thinks is what really matters. There are several movies in African American horror that the culture simply loves, and if I waited for ratings to tell me what’s good to watch, then my outlook would be extremely limited. Once I saw Zazie Beetz and Joe Keery (AKA Steve Harrington (Stranger Things) as well as Hannibal Buress, I was all in. This was a new one for this list, as I struggled with 4 potential contenders for this spot.
I hope you enjoyed Day 27 of this 31 Days of Halloween in movies. Stay tuned for Day #28.
