My Weeknight Bedtime Routine!

How you feelin’.

TAKE NOTE: Are you taking in the good?  Allow yourself to focus on positive experiences and let go of the negative ones.  Do you think the grass is greener on the other side? Then water your lawn.

It’s a beautiful day to have a beautiful day.

Hello, my friends, and Happy August.  I hope you’re being productive, staying hydrated, checking in with friends and family, and enjoying the season.

Today I’m talking about my 5-step bedtime routine.

After I close the curtains, re-fluff the couch cushions, make sure the sink is clean, and reset the kitchen, it’s time to head upstairs and get ready for bed.

I don’t like to make things difficult when my body is tired, and because I’ve struggled with sleep for the last 7 years, I’ve fine-tuned my routine to just a few things that prepare my mind and body for a (somewhat // which translates to menopause) restful sleep.

I’m a strong advocate for taking sleep gummies (melatonin) for a better quality of sleep. It’s the first step in my evening routine, which helps me in fall asleep faster.

I take a little more time with my teeth in the evening because of my periodontal issues by first rinsing with warm salt water and a gum massage setting on my toothbrush. While I still use floss, I also use these little picks, which are a game changer.

three My skincare routine is crucial, but especially in the evenings, to help wash away the dust and particles from the day. I’m able to use a skin oil that really gives my skin a good drink at nighttime. I’m currently using Cerave Non-Foaming Cleanser, Origins Glow-Boosting Mask, Pacifica Retinol Serum, and Cerave PM Moisturizer with a few drops of Loli Pank Plum Exlir.

PM yoga is a new normal for me. I do a yoga class every morning that ranges from 10-15 minutes, varying from vinyasa to yoga sculpt, and stretching. However, since I’ve returned to an in-person schedule at work, I realize how beneficial yoga is in the evenings. It helps my joints, alleviates my sore muscles, improves my circulation, and prepares my body for a restful sleep. four

five Now I’m ready for bed, and this last part of the evening has been updated to help me fall asleep faster.  Which means I put away the laptop. I do watch some TV, but by the time I’m in bed, I switch to you a YouTube video that is just a dark screen and rain showers. This way, I don’t have bright commercials interrupting the darkness, and I have to soothing sounds of rain. I also listen to an audiobook, and I’m usually asleep 10-15 minutes after I start.

The only time these steps may change is if I’m heading to work in the morning. I’m on a 2-day telework schedule, so on some evenings, I will trim my brows or shape up my mo-hawk so my gray hair doesn’t take over.

What’s your evening routine?  Is it several things, or can you just jump in bed?  Let me know in the comments.
