Holiday Wish List … These are a Few of my Favorite Things!

Hello and welcome to the blog today.

I hope everyone is doing well heading into the weekend. It’s just one week before the holiday and, I’m not stressed. Cooking will be minimal, as we head out today to pick up a few things.

Our only problem is our small fridge and food storage.  Our normal shopping days end with frustration as we have the smallest fridge I’ve ever seen (ok…exaggerating a little), but we literally can’t fit anything in it, so that will be our only challenge.

Minimal Holiday Decor

Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite things for a minimal Christmas Holiday. I don’t need a lot as far as decorations go because I have three storage bins filled with ornaments that I’ve been collecting since I was in my 20s.

I purchased my pre-lit pencil tree in 2015 and while it’s not as sturdy as the bigger tree’s it’s been working out well storage-wise. It does need filler aside from the ornaments, so I use faux flowers, ribbon … and I may add some fiber-fill for faux snow.

Here’s what’s on my (short) list.

basket

BASKET… Last year I had a Hearth & Hand black wicker tree collar. It was lovely but it was too big and cumbersome to store after Christmas.  So I donated my collar right before I moved.  I figured this year I would go for a smaller basket since the base of my tree is quite small.  I just placed my order last week as Cost Plus World Market had a really good sale.  This is also a good purchase because I will be able to use this basket as storage year-round.

BLANKET… Again going off of last year I just used some faux fur that I had leftover from one of my doll projects.  I’m not sure if that will work this year, but if it doesn’t I get a cheap blanket from Target for under 20 bucks.  Again this is something that we will use all winter.

PILLOWS … I don’t have any holiday pillows … well except one little one with jingle bells on it.  I would like (again) something neutral, but I’m waiting for these items to go on sale because there’s no excuse for spending a lot of money on a pillow cover that you only use one time a year.

Watercolor christmas gifts and presents in craft wrapping paper

CRAFT WRAPPING PAPER … Craft paper has many uses.  I like the clean look with no designs on paper.  I do have plenty of Christmas wrapping paper in my storage but it’s always nice to have plain paper because it has multi-purposes outside of the holiday.

freshgarland

LIVE GARLAND… I’ve used faux garland around my house, but there’s nothing like the smell of live garland.  And a bonus is that live garland (pieces) are absolutely free.  All you have to do is go to one of your big box stores like Home Depot or Lowes.  When they trim their trees that folks purchase they discard those pieces in a box and they just throw them away at the end of the day.  With garland pieces, you can make your own mini faux trees, wreaths, or you can use them as an accent on your gifts.  All you need is floral wire to make your own garland.  Also, grocery stores have a cheaper option for garland.

ribbonRIBBON … Ribbon for me serves many purposes.  I make my own tree-topper, I use this as filler in my little tree, and it can be used for gifts year-round because I make sure to get a plain ribbon or something stripped in neutral colors.

Well everyone I”m going to end this here.  I don’t know if it’s too early for folks to think about Christmas but I love Christmas so I just wanted to share.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.  Stay safe where ever you are.  I”ll be back on Monday and then I’m taking a few days to enjoy the holiday.  — Peace —
