Welcome to the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies
Hello Friends, and welcome to Day #1 of the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies, 2026. In this (Blog-tober) series, I will post every day for 31 days in October. This year I’m continuing the movie series with a new theme each week.
Quote for Halloween
“I don’t speak ill of the dead; it’s much more fun to demonize the living.” – Wednesday

(A little backstory) In 2023, I set out on this ambitious quest. I have always participated in Blog-tober, but that year I decided to do something different. I wanted to share my love of horror movies, so I did a 31 Days of Halloween, featuring a different film every day. For a recap, check out 2023 and 2025. 👈🏾
Coming up this month…
Week #1 – Maniac Matriarch Week [Days 1-5]
Week #2 – The Last Recording Week [Days 6-11]
Week #3 – The Witching Hour Week [Days 12-17]
Week #4 – The Brain Buffet Week [Days 18-24]
Week #5 – Black Horror Rising Week [Days 25-31]
I’ll create some new trivia to test your knowledge at the end of each week.
Now… the Movies
For each movie, I’ll provide general information (title, details, rating, and synopsis). If I’ve seen the movie, I’ll provide some feedback; otherwise, I’ll be right there with you, enjoying the scares.
Our Maniac Matriarch Week begins….
This week is dedicated to the women who hold their families together—until they’re pushed too far. These matriarchs are fiercely protective, relentlessly determined, and just a little (or a lot) unhinged when it comes to defending the people they love or settling old scores. The phrase “hell hath no fury” doesn’t even begin to cover it. Whether they’re demanding loyalty, seeking revenge, or making sure everything goes their way, these women prove that crossing the family matriarch is almost always a very bad idea.
DAY #1
MOVIE: Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, 1962
IMDb: Rating: 8.0
Genre: Psychological Thriller, Horror
Starring: Betty Daivs ✨ Joan Crawford ✨
SYNOPSIS:
Jane Hudson (Bette Davis) is an aging child star left to care for her wheelchair-bound sister Blanche (Joan Crawford), also a former child actress. Stuck living together in a mansion in old Hollywood, Blanche plots to get even with Jane for the car crash that left her crippled years earlier. But Jane is desperate to keep Blanche imprisoned as she plans a new rise to fame and tries to hide Blanche’s existence from doctors, visitors, and neighbors while devising a way to get rid of her sister. [TRAILER]
“Don’t forget to eat your din-din”.
This title (even for its time) was and will remain shocking, and deserving of its place in the psychological horror genre, and its classic feuding Betty and Joan at their best.
I hope you enjoyed your Day #1 movie post, and I look forward to getting you through the next 29 days.
