Hello Friends, and welcome (or welcome back) to the blog.
Quote of the Day!
“The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.”― Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
Friends, I hope you’re enjoying some creature comforts, staying hydrated, and getting plenty of rest in these chaotic times.
I wanted to do something new. Every year, every season, I grapple with how to format reviews for my blog. Last year (and years past), I created a page just for reviews, but when I wanted to make a list or update, I had no space for that. This is why [last year] I created a book tracker page to house my hauls, reviews, GR challenge updates, and book previews. That part seems to be going well, but when I’m ready to review a book, do I create a whole post? It’s a conundrum, but I think I’ve devised a compromise.
Today, I want to try something new: a newsletter. No one [really] goes to my “Book Tracker” page, and I know that’s really for me, but I figured I could capture some of that in a newsletter and highlight a few things I’m reading and some updates. With all that said, here it goes.
Good Reads Updates Newsletter!Issue No. 1 | February 2025 | Condensed Version
What an interesting horror novel, which was violent [indeed]. Am I partial because it takes place right before Halloween? Yes, but what’s not to enjoy about that? The story begins with teenagers, and I’m not opposed to that because I read my share of YA novels. Some backstory is explained initially, but not entirely, as that would give the entire book and its secrets away. Leave to the townspeople to accept the confession of a would-be killer …The Black Heart Killer terrorized the town of Newport back in 1979. Adults would say, “Stay out of the woods,” but since when have teenagers listened to anything? Howie and his friends would suffer the consequences of ignoring that warning when they stumble upon what appears to be a gravesite. A supernatural presence would be awakened, and the killings would begin. The Black Heart Killer would [once again] wreak havoc among the town, seeking revenge. The people of this town got it [all] wrong, but where have we seen this before? Adults ignore the obvious clues, and their kids, whom I will say have a pretty good grasp of what’s happening. There is always one sensible adult, but their mortality [usually] hangs in the balance depending on how much they know. There are no jump scares, no second guessing. This is action by way of killing …sweet and straightforward. It’s [by far] the goriest title I’ve read this year, and it’s a quick, cringy, audible listen that will have you twisting in your seat. |
