Best of the Best: 20 Movies Released in 2024 (That I Watched)

Hello friends, and Happy January 25!

I wish everyone joy, good health, and prosperity in 2025, and I will always repeat my mantra … Drink plenty of water, get lots of rest, take care of your body and protect your mind, cut your screen time by 20%, and give yourself some grace.

I know that’s a lot (right), but you can do it.

I post a lot of content about movies here, including the list, Top 10s, and what I’m watching.  (Now) You may be wondering … “are you really watching all those movies?  The answer would be yes.  I usually watch about 75% of what I post, so today, I wanted to share some of the movies I viewed in 2024.  The good, the strange, and the terrible are all on this list.

Streaming Releases I Watched in 2024

Brats
This documentary centers around the ‘Brat Pack’ and their profound impact on the young stars’ lives.  These actors were a big deal in the 80s, and most of my movie-watching featured one or more of these actors.

The Greatest Night in Pop
This is about the writing, producing, and creating the hit We Are The World. It’s an eye-opening documentary recounted by Lionel Ritchie, Cyndie Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, and several other artists featured on that track.

Quiet On The Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV
This documentary will break your heart, and if you’re a 90s kid, it will ruin the shows that you grew up with.  I am not a 90s kid, but I did watch shows with my daughter.  It’s so disheartening to hear these stories, but hey…everything in the dark will be brought to the light.  Great documentary.

Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told
Wow, this was a thing in the 90s in Atlanta and an event (or series of events) I never attended.  Even with relatives sprinkled throughout the area, it was a time when even my family would leave because of all the foolishness.  What started as a Spring Break gathering for HSBCUs became something people couldn’t imagine. Over the years, you didn’t just have college students attending but people who never set foot in a college, creating chaos.  This was a fascinating documentary for my Gen X people, and I enjoyed it.

Dancing for the Devil: The 7M Tic Tok Cult
This one (right here) is fascinating because I watch a lot of dancing shorts on YouTube, and these people came across my feed.  I even had a friend telling me about this years ago, and these young people were making all this money.  Well, according to this documentary …boy, did he have that wrong. This is another eye-opening documentary about social media and our addiction to feeding it.

Ashley Madison, Sex, Lies & Scandal
This was…WOW, it just was.  I don’t see how people get trapped in these things, but that’s neither here nor there.  It was a website to allow people (specifically) to cheat on their wives or husbands; that was all a scam. Humans…are going to hell in a handbasket. (Netflix)

Monsters: The Lyle and Eric Menedez Story
What do you say about this one?  It just was.  Who do you believe (or don’t), and how did so many apparent clues go unnoticed?  It was also sad (in a way) because we will never really know what happened.  This is a Ryan Murphy “joint,” so expect …everything.

I’ll end this post here. If you’ve been a long-time blog friend, you know I LOVE movies, especially documentaries.  I would love to get into some new things for 2025, but books and films help me escape some of the everyday madness, and anything that provides that safely is the best medicine I can give myself.

Thanks so much for visiting the blog, and I’ll be back to wrap up my “Best of the Best of 2024” — Duces ✌🏽
