31 Days of Halloween in Movies: Day #14 (The Omen, 1976)

Posted on October 14, 2025October 19, 2025 by LifeByWyetha

Welcome back to the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies.

Would You Rather?
See a ghost or meet a real vampire. 👻

Hello Friends, it’s Day #14 of “Blogtober” and the 31 Days of Halloween.  We are cruisin’ through this month a bit fast for my liking, because I always love to stop and savor my cobbler-crusted October. I hope you are enjoying the season, putting up some decorations, and enjoying a Fall walk.

We continue this week of “Cult Classic” movies, but just in case folks are unfamiliar with what that is, let me do a brief explanation. According to “The Google” (LOL), a cult classic is…

A film loved by a passionate, dedicated, and often niche fanbase, rather than the general public. These movies usually have a reputation for being transgressive, avant-garde, or critically dismissed, but have earned a devoted following over time due to their unique qualities, such as their challenging themes, quirky characters, or memorable dialogue.

Key Characteristics

    • Devoted fan base
    • Outside the mainstream
    • Niche themes
    • Repeat viewing power
    • A sense of community
    • So bad it’s good quality
    • and the big one …Longevity

🎬 About Today’s feature 🎬

During the 70s, several movies depicted that the antichrist was coming well before the satanic panic of the 80s.  Movies involving Catholicism tapped into what people were afraid of because Christians know that you can’t believe in one entity without believing in the other. Today’s feature, “The Omen,” is not big on jump scares or gore (come on, ya’ll, it was the 70s), but it’s creepy enough to show that things are never really in our control.

Day #14

MOVIE: The Omen
Director: Richard Donner
Year: 1976
IMDB Rating: 7.5
Genre: Supernatural-Horror, Mystery
Runtime: 1h 51m
Tomato 🍅 Meter:  85%
Starring: ✨ Gregory Peck✨Lee Remick ✨ Harvey Stephens ✨

SYNOPSIS: American diplomat Robert (Gregory Peck) adopts Damien (Harvey Stephens) when his wife, Katherine (Lee Remick), delivers a stillborn child. Father Brennan (Patrick Troughton) warns Robert that Damien will kill Katherine’s unborn child.  As more people around Damien die, Robert investigates Damien’s background and realizes his adopted son may be the Antichrist. [TRAILER]

MY RATING [0-5]: (✨4.5✨) The Omen is one of those movies in the same vein as Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist. It’s also on several lists as being a cursed film, which is also controversial, depending on what side you take. Forces preventing the movie from being made, or forces making sure the movie is made for mass consumption. While there are later versions of this movie including a prequel (The First Omen, which is very good) the original is the best one.
