31 Days of Halloween in Movies: Day #13 (Halloween, 1980)

Posted on October 13, 2025October 16, 2025 by LifeByWyetha

Welcome back to the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies.

Today’s …Would You Rather?
Have a pumpkin as a head or have knives as hands?

Hello Friends, it’s Day #13 of “Blogtober” and the 31 Days of Halloween.  I hope you are doing well, enjoying the season, watching a scary movie with some hot, buttery popcorn, and getting outside to take in the season.

Boy and Gouls …this week is all about “Cult Classics” and I’m starting with he granddaddy of slasher horror movies. In 2023, I concluded my 31 Days of Halloween series with this movie, and now it’s featured first this week.

🍿🎬 About Today’s feature 🍿🎬

Not all the movies in the Halloween franchise hit the mark because it was like they were trying to reinvent the wheel.  Today’s feature is one that started them all.  The original Halloween starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald (I shot him six times, LOL) Pleasence.

Day #13

MOVIE: Halloween
Director: John Carpenter
Year: 1978
IMDB Rating: 7.7
Genre: B-Horror, Slasher
Runtime: 1h 31m
Tomato 🍅 Meter:  97%
Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis ✨ Donald Pleasence ✨

SYNOPSIS: On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six-year-old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes from Smith’s Grove. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims. [TRAILER]

MY RATING [0-5]: (✨✨✨✨✨) The first slasher flick by the legendary John Carpenter (may he rest in love), had me scared shitless, looking between my fingers, even when I saw it in my 20s.  I was way too chicken-shit to see this in the 80s.  But I have love for Jamie Lee Curtis, who is finally getting her flowers.

There have only been two versions of Halloween. The reboot in 2018, which is (technically) supposed to be the sequel to the 1978 version, omits Halloween II (1981), which also omits Halloween: H20, the 20th anniversary. And let’s not forget the uber-violent Rob Zombie version of Halloween 1 & 2. I will list all the movies below.

Halloween Movies

Halloween (1978)
Halloween II (1981)
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982). This movie has nothing to do with any of the films.
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
Halloween: A Rob Zombie Film (2007)
Halloween II: A Rob Zombie Film (2009)
Halloween (2018)
Halloween Kills (2021)
Halloween Ends (2022)
