31 Days of Halloween in Movies: Day #9 (Paranormal Activity)

Posted on October 9, 2025October 13, 2025 by LifeByWyetha

Welcome back to the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies.

Hey, hey …hey! We are in the 2nd of “Blogtober” and the 31 Days of Halloween.  Today is Day #9 in the series. I hope everyone is doing well, enjoying the season, reading a Halloween-themed book, and trying some tasty fall drinks.

This week’s theme is the sub-genre of “Paranormal“ horror. Today’s feature is the “Paranormal Activity.” There are a total of 7 movies in the franchise, but today I’m featuring the first movie.

Day #9

MOVIE: Paranormal Activity
Director(s): Oren Peli 📽
Year: 2009, Limited Release
IMDB Rating: 6.3
Genre: Supernatural, B-Horror, Found Footage Horror
Runtime: 1h 23m
Tomato 🍅 Meter: 83%
Starring: Katie Featherston ✨ Micah Sloat ✨

SYNOPSIS: Soon after moving into a suburban tract home, Katie (Katie Featherston) and Micah (Micah Sloat) become increasingly disturbed by what appears to be a supernatural presence. Hoping to capture evidence of it on film, they set up video cameras in the house, but are not prepared for the terrifying events that follow. [TRAILER]

FRANCHISE
Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)
Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015)
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021)

MY RATING [0-5]: (✨✨✨✨) Let’s be clear that while this is a low-budget movie, it IS a scary movie, so this should not be your intro to the horror (paranormal) genre.  There is a dark presence, jump scares, and this movie will have you hiding your face until the very last scene, as you never know what’s going to happen or why.  The franchise scored well, but became silly in the last two movies…The Ghost Dimension and Next of Kin.

Side note…The Conjuring (2013), which is based on actual events, lays out the blueprint for what’s happening to this couple.  I learned that later on, even though these movies have no relation to one another, and premiered at different times, they all have one thing in common.
