31 Days of Halloween: Day #21 … 20 Horror-Thiller Book Titles from the Paperbacks from Hell

Posted on October 21, 2024January 5, 2025 by LifeByWyetha

Hello, friends, and welcome to the 31 Days of Halloween!

Halloween Quote
“Be careful in the company of monsters that you don’t become one.” — Cindy Gerard, “Take No Prisoners”

It’s Day 21 of the series, and this week, I’m sharing everything in books: classic reads, new titles for the season, a few book reviews, and other goodies.

*******

A year or so ago, I read a book called Paperbacks from Hell: The Twisted History of ’70s and ’80s Horror Fiction, and I added so many books to my TBR list.  Mind you, because they are horror titles, I don’t anticipate that they are that great, but I just wanted to read a few to form my own opinion, and the book provided some context about the stories, the authors, and how life does imitate art when it comes to books. These stories magnified what people were afraid of during these times and how some authors took advantage of that fear to push boundaries, and let your imagination wander.

20 Horror-Thiller Book Titles from the Paperbacks from Hell (1950s-80s)

Some of these titles are so obscure that several are no longer in print and are being sold by individual sellers, so I linked them as best I could.  This is not the complete list, but I’ve pulled out just a few.  The complete list is 569 titles, and I would be insane to add them all (LOL), but the list is available via Good Reads.  I’ve read about 12 books from this massive list, (not recently) but over the years.

The Bad Seed, 1954
When Darkness Loves Us, 1985
The Amulet, 1979
Black Ambrosia, 1988
Night Train, 1984
Our Lady of Darkness, 1977
The Amityville Horror, 1977
Burnt Offerings, 1973
The Godsend, 1976
Unborn, 1980
Let’s Go Play At the Adams, 1974
Dark Forces, 1983
The Reaping, 1980
The Scream, 1987
Witch House, 1979
Stage Fright, 1988
The Nest, 1980
The Legacy, 1977
Nightblood, 1989
The Turning, 1978
