The Best Who-Done-It-Mysteries for the Fall Season

Posted on November 22, 2023January 5, 2025 by LifeByWyetha

Hello Friends, welcome or welcome back to the blog.

Gnight, November
Come in from the cold
We’re making hot cocoa
with WHOLE milk: we’re bold.
CHILL, November. CHILL.” Lin-Manuel Miranda

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I can’t believe we’re almost at the end of November. Through my ups and downs and everything in between, it’s crazy how fast this year flew by. I hope you are doing well, checking in with friends and family, and taking some time out to enjoy the holiday.

The entire month of November has been a “who-done-it-murder mystery” month. We binge during Halloween and watch everything scary under the sun, and then November begins our murder mystery month where we re-watch a few of the best ones and check out a few that we’ve never seen.

The Best Murder Mysters for the November – December Season (what we’ve watched this year)

See How They Run, 2022

In 1950s London, plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered. When a world-weary inspector and an eager rookie constable take on the case, they find themselves thrown into a puzzling whodunit within the glamorously sordid world of underground theater, investigating the mysterious homicide at their own peril.

🎞️

Murder Mystery 2, 2023

Now private detectives launching their own agency, Nick and Audrey Spitz land at the center of an international investigation when a friend is abducted.

🎞️

The Nice Guys, 2016

Holland March (Ryan Gosling) is a down-on-his-luck private eye in 1977 Los Angeles. Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) is a hired enforcer who hurts people for a living. Fate turns them into unlikely partners after a young woman named Amelia (Margaret Qualley) mysteriously disappears. Healy and March soon learn the hard way that some dangerous people are also looking for Amelia. Their investigation takes them to dark places as anyone else who gets involved in the case seems to wind up dead.

🎞️

Clue, 1985

Six blackmail victims are invited to an isolated mansion by a man who knows a dark secret from each of their pasts. On arrival, each is given a pseudonym drawn from Cluedo before being introduced to the blackmailer. Each is handed a weapon, at which point the lights are switched off and the blackmailer is killed. Can the guests uncover the murderer before they all become victims?

🎞️

An Then There Were None, 2023 (Four-part mini-series)

“And Then There Were None” is a dramatic adaptation of the best-selling crime novel by Agatha Christie. The story follows 10 strangers who receive an unusual invitation to a solitary mansion based remotely off Britain’s Devon Coast. Among the guests is an unstable doctor, an anxious businessman, an irresponsible playboy, and a governess with a secret. Cut off from the outside world, the group arrives at its destination, only to find that darkness awaits them. As people start to mysteriously die, the members of the group realize there is a killer among them.

🎞️

Helens Dead, 2023

A young woman discovers that her boyfriend is sleeping with her cousin Helen and goes to confront them at a dinner party, only to find out that Helen is dead and everybody is a suspect.

🎞️

Murder by Death, 1976

Five famous literary detective characters and their sidekicks are invited to a bizarre mansion to solve an even stranger mystery.

🎞️

After the Thin Man, 1936

Private detective Nick Charles and his wealthy wife Nora are back home at last and hoping for a quiet New Year when there is a murder. The obvious suspect is his wife, Nora’s cousin, Selma.

🎞️

The Outfit, 2022

Leonard is an English tailor who makes suits on London’s famous Savile Row. He must outsmart a dangerous group of criminals to survive a fateful night.

🎞️

Brick, 2005

After receiving a frantic phone call from his ex-girlfriend, teenage loner Brendan Frye (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) learns that her dead body has been found. Vowing to solve her murder himself, he must infiltrate high-school cliques that he previously avoided. His search for the truth places him before some of the school’s roughest characters, leading to a confrontation with a drug dealer known as “the Pin (Lukas Haas).”
