31 Days of Halloween in Movies: Day #27 “Fav” (Prom Night, 1980)

Posted on October 27, 2025November 3, 2025 by LifeByWyetha

Welcome back to the 31 Days of Halloween in Movies.

FROM WEDNESDAY
Wanna have some fun? I’m where fun goes to die.

Friends, this week feels a little bittersweet as October winds down. It’s been a full month—filled with fall festivities, my birthday, a hectic office move, and all the little traditions I love to pack into this season.

This series takes a bit of behind-the-scenes planning—everything you’ve been seeing these past few weeks was actually created and scheduled back when it was still 90 degrees out. I plan ahead so that when October finally rolls in, I can slow down a bit, soak in the season, and enjoy all the little fall moments that make this time of year so special.

The 31 Days of Halloween series will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s become one of those traditions I look forward to every year, and I’ll keep doing it for as long as it continues to bring me joy.

All My Halloween Movie Favorites… Week!

With that, I’m calling this week my grab bag of horror favorites. These are the movies I find myself returning to—not just on Halloween, but all year long. They’re good fun and comforting in their own creepy way. I find that sometimes a little manufactured horror is the perfect escape from the real-life kind of chaos.

Day #27

MOVIE: Prom Night (1980)
Director: Paul Lynch
Year: 1980
IMDB Rating: 5.2
Genre: Slasher Horror, B-Horror, Whodonit
Runtime: 1h 32m
Tomato 🍅 Meter: 43%
Starring: ✨ Jamie Lee Curtis ✨ Leslie Neilson ✨ Casey Stevens

SYNOPSIS:  This slasher movie follows a relentless killer who is out to avenge the death of a young girl who died after being bullied and teased by four of her classmates. Now, high-school students, the guilt-ridden kids, have kept their involvement a secret, but when they start being murdered, one by one, it’s clear that someone knows the truth. Also coping with the past are members of the dead girl’s family, most notably her prom-queen sister, Kim Hammond.. [TRAILER]

“The killers are coming.”

MY RATING [0-5]: (5.0 ✨✨✨✨✨) I could probably recite this movie—dance moves and all—scene by scene at this point. I’ve watched it well over a hundred times in the past three years, and it never gets old. It’s classic Jamie Lee, classic ’80s, and while it definitely makes me feel a little nostalgic for ‘my time,’ I absolutely love it. There’s not a ton of blood—it’s a slasher, so mildly violent—but much like Halloween with Jamie Lee, it set the tone for so many that followed. And honestly, it’s the perfect mix of camp and charm that keeps me coming back all year long.
