BOOK REVIEW: The Whisper Man

Hello to all the fabulous people and welcome to the blog today. I hope everyone is doing well this Wednesday. How am I doing? Really tired. I know that when you’re tired other issues tend to manifest because my knees and lower back are paying the price. I’m on a mission to take some time off (soon) and give my body some much need R & R.

Part of this fatigue is on the weekends I’m painting all the bathrooms. I’m almost finished with mine, but then I have two more to tackle. I tell you whoever heard of putting flat paint in a bathroom, I will never know. It’s just the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen in all my years of renting. I can’t even explain the color …it’s white but not bright white, like a dirty white, with some yellow in it, and that would be fine if my bathroom had windows. It makes everything look so dull so, all the bathroom are getting a fresh coat in the color “bit of sugar“.

That rant is for another time (LOL) today I’m here with another book review as I move through my Good Reads Challenge. I’m really hoping I can get through everything on my list, but if not … it’s not the end of the world. So enough yacking …let’s get to my review of The Whisper Man.

Book Review

“If you leave a door half-open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken.”

A rhyme spoke amongst children and town folks about The Whisper Man. Children are being abducted in the small town of Featherbank. Gone without a trace, returned dead …but care for. These cases have haunted DI Willis for a decade, even though the original killer (The Whisper Man) was found. He lured his victims by whispering at their windows.

Sometimes tragic events leave traces as a copycat picks up where the original killer has left off. Unassuming Tom Kennedy moves to Featherbank after the loss of his wife to give himself and his son a fresh start. But little do they know the house that they have chosen has a past, and soon that house would start to show traces of atrocities committed.

I enjoyed the Whisper Man as it was suspenseful with some twists and turns. The ending is somewhat predictable, but it’s a mystery that I didn’t figure out until the very end. It holds you guessing, about everyone connected in this case.

Tom’s son begins to hear whispers at this window. This would reveal secrets, to Featherbank’s tragic history and unearth new ones in a race to catch a serial killer. From the recently widowed Tom to the new person (another parent), he’s befriended at this son’s school and the original incarcerated killer.

I don’t want to give too much away but you can probably guess what happens. What I pulled from this is a story about neglectful parents, and what’s perceived by the outside world as well as how perceptive (and bright) children can be even when you don’t realize it.

I enjoyed The Whisper Man as this is my second read from Alex North. I definitely recommend it, but maybe I wouldn’t read it late at night.
