My DIY Mixed-Media & Art Projects

Hello Friends and welcome to the blog today.

Happy happy Friday mi amigos. I hope everyone had a great week, and you are doing well.  We’ve got storms and some cooler temps coming our way this weekend which is fine with me.  It’s actually been too hot to do anything.  We have taken some walks, went to a (small) B-Day party at the park, and just relaxed.  I’m really making an effort to enjoy the Summer and not be a killjoy.

Today I’m sharing some DIY projects that I’ve been working on over the past few weeks.

Abstract Painting

I’ve seen several of my favorite YouTube friends working on wall art, and I’ve wanted to make something for quite some time.  I just had to be still long enough to work on it.  The pattern is pretty random and the only thing that I really gave thought to were the colors.  I’m trying to keep my home decor palate simple and clean.

This art is inspired by Drew Scott of Lone Fox on YouTube (I love his DIYs).  The only thing I purchased for this project was a few brushes and acrylic paint.  I used painter’s tape to create a border and went to work.

I traced out a pattern and after I took a step back to look at my finished work, I decided to add a few extra touches to complete my little project.  This abstract art turned out better than expected.

Mixed Media Art Project

For several weeks I researched working with plaster, to create a type of mixed media project on canvas.  After I was comfortable that I could do this project I wanted to get a tall canvas because my ceilings are over 10 feet.

For this project, I messed up and got the powder vs the actual plaster, but that ended up working out in my favor.  This way I controlled how thick (or thin) the consistency was and it went on pretty smoothly.

I didn’t get any pictures of the process because I was covered in plaster.  I did manage a few pictures but it’s was harder to capture than I thought.  The piece is still drying at this time, and I’m hoping it will be ready to display soon.  I haven’t decided if I will add color, but once I put it in place I’ll decide.

Although messy… this was a fun project to create because there is no right or wrong way to do this.  You can make your strokes in a pattern (or not). Using a spoon, knife, fork, or any other tool can add more detail, and really make your piece stand out.

You really don’t need to have a lot on hand to make instant art, and you can create a project over the weekend in under a few hours with a few supplies.

I have all these supplies, but I did acquire them over time, adding to my collection of things.  I never wanted to amass too much stuff because you need a place to store it, and since I have no storage, garage, or basement, I have to be really picky about what I purchase.

Some great stores for supplies are…

Walmart
Amazon
Thrif Stores
Michaels
A.C. Moore
Joanne’s
Hardware Store

Well, that’s going to do for today.  This is only my 2nd DIY this year, as I’m pacing myself for future projects to give as gifts over the holidays. Thanks so much for visiting the blog, don’t forget to follow or subscribe. I hope everyone has a great weekend, be well, and be safe. — Peace
