Wednesday: 5-Steps for Meal Planning When Moving

Hello my Friends … Happy Wednesday, and welcome to the Life by Wyetha!

Today I’m talking about prepping meals for moving.  I have this 2-year plan, so I will be moving again (to my forever home).  With this move … meals never crossed my mind during the last week at my place. I figured I would cook what I have and order take-out for the rest.

I’m a Type-2 diabetic so I have to structure and limit my options for take-out. I planned on moving day take-out to feed my friends and family, which helped.  The rest was just a blur.

Having a home-cooked meal in the midst of chaos was a great way to stay present.  It may seem like such a simple thing, but it’s everything.

So, I’m going to share a few tips, and recipes (via links) on some great freezer meals, and ways to have a good meal with limited kitchen items on hand.

ONE | Essential Cooking Tools

I wanted to pack up everything that I wasn’t using which included special pots, pans, or Pyrex type cookware.  There were a few things that I continued to use, and these are a must-have item for cooking.

TWO | Make Ahead Freezer Meals

Moving requires a lot of planning, so why not add 3 freezer meals to the list. It’s a great way to have a hot meal after a day of work when you still have to pack boxes.

Freezer meals can be prepped and made on the weekend prior to your move.  This gives you a chance to clear out your freezer and start fresh in your new place.

Here are a few links for some delicious freezer meals.

THREE | Meal Kits

I mentioned awhile ago that I tried Hello Fresh and it wasn’t for me because it was too expensive. However … if you want a few meals at your door, that are ready to go, it’s the easy option.

A meal kit is also helpful in your new place because you can have meals that are already planned, and packed at your door. All you have to do is prep and cook, and it’s one less thing to worry about.

Hello Fresh isn’t the only meal kit service there is also Plated, Home Chef, Blue Apron, and Sun Basket … just to name a few.

FOUR | Fridge … Freezer Clear Out

A no-brainer is to eat the meals or items you had tucked away in your fridge or freezer (provided they haven’t gone south).

I wanted to start fresh so cleared everything out of my fridge, and ate all the leftovers.  This was a good way to help me plan.

You can go through those things first, then save your freezer or meal kit meals for 2-3 days, and then save the take-out for the last day and moving day.

FIVE | Finally…

final

It’s moving day!  Your fridge is cleared out because you ate everything.  Your freezer is good-to-to, if you prepped and used your freezer meals.  Now all you have to do is hold over one box (or large IKEA bag) … put in all your kitchen essentials, and your done.

This is the bag that will travel with you, along with some napkins and compostable dinnerware.  Now when you arrive at your new home, you have exactly what you need to cook a meal kit on the first night, or extra utensils, and plates for take out.

With that I’ll close my post today.  I hope this meal-move-pre was helping or will be helpful for your next move.  Don’t forget to hit that like or subscribe button, and I’ll see you at the end of the week. — Peace —
