Hello Friends and what a beautiful Sunday it is. I am blessed to be here + blessed to take breath + and I hope that I can spread that blessing to others. It’s been a sad yet reflective weekend as I went to a funeral on Saturday. God called one of my uncles home + and while my sadness comes and goes [mostly because I haven’t seen him in years] + I look back on the happy times I can remember because that’s what we have. We grieve and we remember. Loved ones don’t want you sad + they want you living your best life and taking advantage of all things around you.
I’ve thought about how many times I’ve received a compliment or well wishes + and what folks would say about me … when God calls me home. I think we are so ingrained in the nonsense that we do every day that we don’t really stop to appreciate a compliment when we receive it which brings me to list #7. List #7 asks … “List the greatest compliments and encouragement you have ever been given”. Again … it’s not that I don’t receive them it’s that … I think I’m just doing what I’m supposed to do in life and someone else notices that I’m hustlin’ and they say “Damn … “I see you shining” or “Don’t think what you do goes unnoticed”. These statements let me know that I’m never alone + which brings me joy.
LIST 7: List the Greatest Compliments and Encouragement You Have Ever Been Given
1. You are a great mom
2. You’re a hard worker
3. You’re very generous
4. You take good care of others
5. You make others feel at ease
6. You are not here to be sad
7. Sadness will pass
8. Enjoy this life God has given you
9. Treat yourself
10. You deserve better
TAKE ACTION: Rewrite your favorite compliment on a sheet of paper or print it out in a font you love. Then tape it to a wall or frame it in your home so that you are reminded every day to choose happiness and self-love.
This list made my heart flutter + and it brings a few tears … but not of sadness … but of joy … because we often don’t think about these things. I like the notion of framing one of these compliments to put in your home and see it every day + because it’s so encouraging. People look at my daughter and would say … [even as she was coming up] that “your a good mom” but I often felt that I was doing everything wrong. I struggled with what all single-moms struggle with + and I questioned everything. There was a point where I didn’t think I could do it + but my daughter intervened and said … “I don’t care what our circumstances are…I don’t want to live with anyone else but you”
I won’t go through each thing I’ve listed because I honestly don’t know how I do it … I guess it’s just one of those things that God has blessed me with. I will say [for the latter of my list] that the sadness does pass. There was a period in my life where I thought that it would never leave me + and that this is the way things were supposed to be. Happy in the company of others + but sad when I was alone. You are not here to be sad + this is not Gods plan + and you should take advantage of + and enjoy this life that He has given you.
Treating myself to something + and I mean just anything was always a push and pull + because I felt like I didn’t deserve it. I have a co-worker that turned into a really good friend + and she would always tell me … “You work hard every week + and you should always treat yourself to something” We are not here to just work and toil + as long and your not shopping your life away + and creating massive amounts of debt + you should always treat yourself to a little something.
“The most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it’s all that matters”. – Audrey Hepburn –
Thanks so much for visiting my blog today + and with each post I hope that I can bring some of my happiness to others + because if you have joy in your heart + then you spread that joy. – [Know Thyself] Wye
